Proverbs of Solomon

  • 1. Proverbs of Solomon:
    A wise son brings joy to his father's heart,
    but a foolish son brings grief to his mother.
  • 2. Treasures obtained dishonestly
    they bring no benefit,
    but righteousness delivers from death.
  • 3. The Lord will not let the righteous go hungry,
    but frustrates the ambitions of the wicked.
  • 4. Lazy hands impoverish a man,
    while diligent hands make it rich.
  • 5. He who harvests during the summer
    demonstrates wisdom,
    but the son who sleeps at harvest time
    causes shame.
  • 6. Blessings crown the heads of the righteous,
    while the mouth of the wicked harbors violence.
  • 7. The memory of the righteous will be a blessing,
    while the name of the wicked will rot.
  • 8. The wise in heart accept the commandments,
    but the mouth of a fool will bring them to ruin.
  • 9. Who walks with integrity
    walk safely,
    but whoever follows crooked paths
    will be discovered.
  • 10. The one who winks mischievously
    causes sadness,
    and the mouth of a fool leads him to ruin.
  • 11. The mouth of the righteous is a fountain of life,
    while the mouth of the wicked harbors violence.
  • 12. Hatred breeds dissension,
    but love covers all sins.
  • 13. Wisdom is on the lips
    of those who have discernment,
    but the rod is for the back
    of one who has no judgment.
  • 14. The wise store up knowledge,
    while the mouth of the fool
    is an invitation to ruin.
  • 15. The wealth of the rich
    is your fortified city,
    but poverty is the ruin of the poor.
  • 16. The wages of the righteous bring him life,
    but the income of the wicked brings punishment.
  • 17. Who welcomes discipline
    shows the path of life,
    but whoever ignores the rebuke
    misleads others.
  • 18. Who hides hatred
    has lying lips,
    and whoever spreads slander is a fool.
  • 19. When there are many words,
    sin is present,
    but he who controls his tongue is wise.
  • 20. The tongue of the righteous is choice silver,
    but the heart of the wicked
    has almost no value.
  • 21. The words of the righteous
    provide sustenance for many,
    but fools die
    for lack of judgment.
  • 22. The blessing of the Lord brings wealth
    and does not include any pain.
  • 23. The fool finds pleasure
    in misconduct,
    but the man full of understanding
    delights in wisdom.
  • 24. What the wicked fears will happen to him;
    what the righteous desire
    will be granted to them.
  • 25. Once the storm has passed,
    the wicked no longer exists,
    but the righteous abides forever.
  • 26. Just as vinegar is for teeth
    and the smoke for the eyes,
    the lazy man is for those who send him.
  • 27. The fear of the Lord prolongs life,
    but the life of the wicked is shortened.
  • 28. What the righteous desire brings joy,
    but the hopes of the wicked come to nothing.
  • 29. The way of the Lord
    is the refuge of the upright,
    but it is the ruin of those who do evil.
  • 30. The righteous will never be uprooted,
    but the wicked do not last long on earth.
  • 31. The mouth of the righteous brings forth wisdom,
    but the perverse tongue will be cut out.
  • 32. The lips of the righteous speak righteousness,
    but the mouth of the wicked
    only utters wickedness.
