Verses from Ecclesiastes, Chapter 10 of the book of Ecclesiastes in the Bible.

- 1. Just as an inert butterfly contaminates the perfume and corrupts the aroma, a lack of common sense outweighs wisdom and honor.
- 2. The heart of the wise inclines to what is good, but the heart of the foolish turns to evil.
- 3. Even when walking along the path, the fool reveals his folly, demonstrating to everyone his lack of judgment.
- 4. If the wrath of a ruler rises against you, do not abandon your post, for calmness avoids great mistakes.
- 5. There is another evil that I have noticed under the sun, an error committed by those who rule:
- 6. Fools are promoted to high positions, while the rich are demoted to lowly positions.
- 7. I have seen slaves riding on horses, and princes walking on foot, like slaves.
- 8. He who digs a well may fall into it; he who breaks down a wall will be bitten by a serpent.
- 9. He who removes stones will be hurt by them; he who splits wood will be in danger.
- 10. If the axe is dull and the blade is not sharpened, it is necessary to redouble your strength; acting wisely guarantees success.
- 11. If the snake bites before being charmed, what use will be the charmer?
- 12. The words of a wise man bring good, but the lips of a fool destroy him.
- 13. At first their words are mere nonsense, but in the end they prove to be wicked madness.
- 14. Though a fool may talk without ceasing, no one knows the future; who can tell another what will happen to him next?
- 15. The fool's work exhausts him so much that he cannot even find his way home.
- 16. Unhappy is the land whose king is too young and whose leaders indulge in banquets early in the morning.
- 17. Happy is the land whose king is of noble birth, and whose leaders eat at the proper time to restore their strength, and not to get drunk.
- 18. Because of laziness the roof slants; because of lazy hands the house leaks.
- 19. The banquet is prepared for delight, and wine brings joy to life, but all this has its price.
- 20. Do not insult the king in your thoughts, nor curse the rich in your bedroom, for a bird in the sky may carry your words, and winged creatures may spread your words.
