1 Kings, Chapter 17:
Verses from 1 Kings, Chapter 17 of the book of 1 Samuel of the Bible.

Elijah is fed by ravens
- 1. Now Elijah the Tishbite, who was from Gilead, said to Ahab, “As surely as the Lord, the God of Israel, lives, whom I serve, there will be neither rain nor dew in the coming years, except at my word.”
- 2. Then the word of the Lord came to Elijah, saying:
- 3. “Leave here and go east. Hide by the brook Cherith, east of the Jordan.
- 4. You will drink from the brook, and I have commanded the ravens to feed you there.”
- 5. And he did according to the word of the Lord: and he went and dwelt by the brook Cherith, which is east of the Jordan.
- 6. The ravens brought him bread and meat in the morning and bread and meat in the evening, and he drank water from the brook.
- 7. But after some time, the stream dried up due to lack of rain.
The Widow of Zarephath
- 8. Then the word of the Lord came to Elijah, saying:
- 9. “Get up, go to Zarephath, which belongs to Sidon, and stay there. I have ordered a widow there to support you.”
- 10. Then he got up and went to Zarephath. As he approached the town entrance, he found a widow gathering sticks. He called to her and said, “Please bring me a little water in a jar so I can drink.”
- 11. As she was going to get water, he called to her and said, “Please bring me a piece of bread in your hand too.”
- 12. But she replied, “As surely as the Lord your God lives, I have no bread. I have only a handful of flour in a jar and a little oil in a jug. I am gathering sticks so I can go and prepare a meal for myself and my son, so that we may eat it and die.”
- 13. But Elijah said to her, “Do not be afraid. Go and do as you have said. But first make a little cake for me and bring it to me, and then make something for yourself and your son.
- 14. For this is what the Lord, the God of Israel, says: ‘The jar of flour will not be used up, nor will the jar of oil run dry, until the day the Lord sends rain on the earth.’”
- 15. So she went and did according to the word of Elijah. And he and the woman and her household ate for many days.
- 16. The jar of flour did not run out, nor did the jug of oil run dry, in accordance with the word of the Lord spoken through Elijah.
- 17. After this, the son of the woman who owned the house became sick, and his illness became worse and worse until there was no more breath left in him.
- 18. Then the woman said to Elijah, “What do you have against me, O man of God? Have you come to me to remind me of my sins and to put my son to death?”
- 19. He said to her, “Give me your son.” He took him from her arms, carried him upstairs to the room where he was staying, and laid him on his own bed.
- 20. Then he cried out to the Lord, “O Lord my God, have you also brought trouble on the widow with whom I am staying by killing her son?”
- 21. Then he stretched himself out on the boy three times and cried out to the Lord, “Lord my God, please let this boy’s life return to him.”
- 22. The Lord listened to Elijah's voice, and the boy's life returned to him, and he lived.
- 23. Elijah took the boy, went down from the upper room, and gave him to his mother. “Look,” he said, “your son is alive!”
- 24 Then the woman said to Elijah, “Now I know that you are a man of God and that the word of the Lord in your mouth is true.”
